Tragic: Shereka Marsh has been named online as the victim of the shooting in Hackney Wick, East London
Shereka Marsh, a student at Urswick School in Hackney, was attacked in a house in Hackney Wick just before 4pm yesterday.
Three men, believed to be under the age of 18, have been taken into custody and are being questioned by detectives.
Miss Marsh has been named as the victim by friends online, but is yet to be formally identified by police.
She may have been accidentally shot in the neck by her friend, according to posts on Facebook and Twitter.
The teenager was a star pupil at the school in Paragon Road - and had only last week led the Jamaican High Commissioner on a tour of the institution.
Today, dozens of people have taken to social-networking sites to pay tribute to Miss Marsh - with a Facebook group, 'RIP Shereka', set up in memory of the teenager.
One girl, using the handle @ForeverAyleah, posted on Twitter: 'God gained another beautiful angel #tomorrowisntpromised'
Another, @zhannnah, wrote: 'Was just cracking jokes with you yesterday, RIP @Sherekalove_'
And user @jadevee_ said: 'Rest in peace beautiful @Sherekalove_, believe I can't even get my head around this - praying for her family'.

She wrote: 'You know when your (sic) looking too nice, you don't wanna wear a jacket and ruin your outfit'.
And two hours earlier, she posted: 'How can I loose (sic) a top? I'm just the worse and annoy myself so much'.
Officers and paramedics were called to the house following the shooting, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are yet to formally identify both Miss Marsh and the three men in custody. However, officers said last night they believed they knew the identity of the deceased and had begun informing family,
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: 'Three men are still in custody and we are awaiting formal identification of the victim.
'Detectives from the Homicide & Major Crime Command are investigating. No charges have been brought yet.
'Enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident, and a post-mortem will be held in due course.'

The London Borough of Hackney has a reputation for being dangerous. According to Metropolitan Police figures from last month, Hackney has the second-highest crime rate in London.
Over the past year, five killings and 70 cases of gun crime took place in the area, according to the force's crime figures.
According to the Citizens Report website, 12 teenagers were killed in London last year, four of whom were also shot. The girl is the second teenager killed in the capital in 2014 after Iraqi Basel Aghabra, 19, was fatally stabbed on February 3.
