Pharrell Williams is impressed when Ellen DeGeneres presents him with massive hat that dwarfs his own famous lid

Pharrell Williams does not go anywhere without his famous high hat since he debuted the accessory at this year’s Grammys.

It's become such a common sight that Ellen DeGeneres is no longer impressed and felt the need to present him with a new and improved version on her Thursday show.

‘When you first started wearing that Vivienne Westwood hat, I was like, "man that’s a big hat,"' the 56-year-old talk show host said.

‘And now I’m so used to it that it doesn’t look that big. So I got you another hat that I think you should start wearing,' she added.

A man darted out from backstage, carrying an enormous four foot tall version of Pharrell’s hat, putting the black lid on his head to shame.

The 41-year-old musician laughed in shock and amusement, as he cradled the giant brown headpiece on his right knee.
‘This is awesome,’ he said, adding: ‘This might be a lot online. I can just tell you right now. Online, where this is going…’

‘I didn’t think you should hold it there personally,’ Ellen interjected, whisking the object off his lap. ‘I think you should move it over. Or you could put it on your head. It certainly could have been somewhere else…’

The special gift came after the Happy singer discussed his second studio album, which debuted on March 3, titled ‘G I R L.’
The album is a tribute to women, because he loves women ‘in many many many ways, and you’re right in all the right ways,’ Pharrell told Ellen.

‘Instantly I knew I wanted to give back to a demographic that had been giving to me and my family for years and that was women,’ he explained.

‘Instantly, I knew it was gonna be called "girl." I was gonna capitalize the letters and put two spaces in between each letter because I needed that word to read differently in any text that it would be lucky enough to be written about.
‘I wanted that word "girl" to be bigger than anything else in that entire paragraph. First of all, I have a huge affinity for them. At the same time, there’s a lot of inequality with women…

‘Still to this day, what is it – like 73 cents to a man’s dollar? What is that? The last I heard the whole reason this entire species can come into existence is through the portal of a woman’s body.

‘We’ve had a space station floating around the earth for over 20 years. We even have a rover on the surface of Mars. But we have legislators and legislation in certain places that tells women what they can and can’t do with their bodies. How is that possible?

He added: ‘When I say equality, I say equality for everybody. Everybody. Like who are you telling who they can marry and who they can’t? What is this? This is 2014.’
The Get Lucky hitmaker also performed his songs Happy and Marilyn Monroe on the show.
