Mexico have called up eight Europe-based players to their squad for the friendly against Nigeria on March 5.
Top names in the squad include Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez a.k.a Chicharito and Villareal’s Giovani Dos Santos.
The other players invited by coach Miguel Herrera are Hector Moreno (Espanyol), Guillermo Ochoa (Ajaccio), Javier Aquino (Villareal), Hector Herrera (Porto) Diego Reyes (Porto) and Andres Guardado (Leverkusen).
El Tri will be without striker Carlos Vela who has not indicated interest in returning to the national side.
The match will take place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States as part of preparation for the 2014 World Cup.
The last game between both sides ended 2-2 last year.
Nigeria will be without the services of striker Bright Dike who tore his Achilles tendon on Monday while training with his Major League Soccer club side Toronto FC. It is not yet known who his replacement will be.
While Nigeria are drawn in World Cup Group F alongside Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mexico will play against hosts Brazil, Cameroon and Croatia in Group A.
Meanwhile, Nigeria stars have said next month’s World Cup warm-up against Mexico will be taken very seriously as it could determine their fate.
Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama said.
“The game will be a good one for us, it will boost our confidence level as the World Cup approaches,” the Lille star said.
CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa said Nigeria will aim for victory against Mexico.
“It is going to be a tough game, Mexico are no small team and will give us good test. We as a team love winning and that is what Nigerians love too, we will go there to do our best to achieve that,” Musa told MTNFootball.com.
Ogenyi Onazi also said they hope for a good result.
“Nigerians want good result in every game we play and that show they love the team, that exactly what we will try to do against Mexico. It is going to be a tough game no doubt.” Onazi said.
The previous two meetings between both nations ended in draws with the first being in 2007 in Mexico and the last was in Houston, USA, in 2013.
