Kidnapping: Jonathan’s foster father regains freedom

The foster father of President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Inegite Nitabai, who was kidnapped on Sunday, February 23, has regained his freedom in the wee hours of yesterday.
Checks by Daily Sun revealed that his freedom was secured by the anti-kidnapping squad of the Bayelsa State Police Command, led by one Chris Nwogwu.
It was gathered the special anti-kidnapping squad of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) and its counterpart at the DSS Bayelsa Command were able to obtain useful information from the arrested suspects, which provided a clue about the whereabouts of the victim.
Security sources said with some of the mastermind of the kidnap in the custody of security agents and others being trailed, the heat was on the kidnappers to free the man.
Also, the presence of troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Pulo Shield combing the creeks around Odioma, Brass Local Government Area with some arrests made was said to have caused panic in the camp of the kidnappers.
He was said to have been dropped somewhere at Ogboma, Odioma community before the police authorities were contacted to go and pick him
The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara. who confirmed the release of Nitabai at the command headquarters, said the police applied utmost professionalism in the way they carried out the operations that led to Nitabai’s freedom.
Opara, who commended the family members for cooperating with the police maintained that no ransom was paid for his release.
Similarly, he commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5 for not mounting undue pressure on the command to free Nitabai.
He disclosed that Governor Henry Seriake Dickson was instrumental to all the operations carried out to secure his release as the state government funded all the operations.
